An interpertation of how a 13th century tunic with a sleeveless surcote might have looked, the overdress is also know as a cyclas or sukenie.
The pattern I used for the surcote can be I found in The Medieval Tailor's Assistant written by Sarah Thursfield on page 124. An alternative and "period"
pattern for the surcote is the pattern for St. Birgitta's Gown
(c1330s) which can be found on the web site Some Clothing of the Middle Ages.
The tunic is made from green tweed wool and all visible seams are handsewn, the surcote is made from madder dyed tweed wool all visible seams are handsewn. The headdress is made from white linen.

This headdress is my interpertation of a 13th century French portrait head from a tomb. (Davenport p. 167, plate 469.)this is the third picture from the left.
It consists of a barbette, a linen band passed under the chin and tied on top of the head, a fillet, a stiffened linen circlet and on top of the fillet a linen veil. My hair is worn in a hairnet.
